The idea of using a contest to promote the book came up early in the discussions between me and my dad.

The first iteration of it was that anyone who bought the book would be entered in a raffle.  And at some point down the road, we’d draw a handful of winners from a hat.  They’d receive a prize ranging from a flatscreen TV, to a laptop, to maybe a vacation.

Okay…not bad…and it would probably convince people to take a chance on buying the book.

But it was flat.  The same kind of contest you could find anywhere online.  And it felt something else.  Maybe a little lazy?
