I didn’t quite have the same luxury anymore. 

Because I’d spent so much time on Denver Nights, I needed to get back to work.  And quickly.  Instead of paying all of our bills at the beginning of the month, I’d started staggering them and juggling them around, trying to pay the ones that were due, and pushing off the ones that could wait. 

By the time I’d received half a dozen rejections, and had assumed I wouldn’t get responses on my other queries, I was even skipping over some bills.  The ones that were more flexible, like utilities, and didn’t assess late charges.
