I started paying more attention to the ads I would see anytime I was on the internet.
I dug into the ones that promised ‘free laptops’ or ‘make $100 per hour from home’. I found that inevitably…at some point…. …they ultimately tried to get a credit card, sign you up for a service (or multiple services), and in general, take your money.
I found one that advertised a free product, then a couple pages later asked for a credit card (to cover the $2 shipping charge), and then deep in the fine print was a disclaimer that if you didn’t cancel your account in 2 days, you would be charged a $295 account fee.
Jesus.
I’d always wondered about the fine line between marketing and fraud. But it gave me hope, anyway.

If we could actually make it happen, I thought the Denver Nights promotion would be one of the most legitimate contests on the internet.
