I did have one agent request the first 20 pages of my manuscript after reading my query letter.
I’d nearly gone berserk scrutinizing every letter within those pages. I looked for spelling or grammar issues, checked the formatting of my manuscript, tried to ensure that it, 1) didn’t have any errors, and 2) looked identical to the manuscripts I’d seen in the guidelines-for-authors books I’d read.
I could have taken more time, but for some reason I thought it would reflect poorly if – since I’d finally gotten some interest from an agency – I kept them waiting.
